IDEAS FOR HELPING YOUR KIDS PRACTICE THEIR MATH SKILLS AT HOME
Want to help inspire your kids to practice and use their math skills at home? Here are some tips from the National Association for the Education of Young Children; these tips will come in handy during the winter months for if and when you get stuck at home during the ice and snowstorms.
1.) Bake Something Together
Using a recipe to bake a cake, a pie, or even cookies will require the use of measurements and counting, along with other math-related skills.
2.) Measure and Count
Seconds on a stopwatch, or the number of jumping jacks one can do in a given amount of time—any number of things can be counted and measured! This will help your child practice their numbers.
3.) Build Something Together
Building a birdhouse or a small treasure box will allow for your to practice counting and size measurements, as well as scale and other mathematical skills.
